About the role
You will own the core of DeepIP's search infrastructure : a RAG-powered patent search engine built on Elasticsearch, indexing over 150 million documents. This is a high-impact, production-critical role at the intersection of search, applied AI, and legal tech.
What you'll own:
Build and maintain a RAG-powered Elasticsearch patent search engine (150M+ documents)
Optimize ingestion pipelines, query performance, and search relevance
Design, implement, and maintain production-grade AI systems using LLMs and custom models
Ensure system reliability and quality: testing, CI/CD, clean architecture, monitoring, and observability
Collaborate with end-users and product teams to align technical decisions with product vision
Contribute to the long-term vision of the product and technical architecture
Your North Star:
Deliver a reliable, high-performing patent search engine that powers all of DeepIP's services — while pushing the boundaries of applied AI in legal tech and ensuring AI features directly enhance user experience and product impact.
About you
Strong knowledge of search systems and RAG pipelines
Production experience with Elasticsearch on datasets of at least 10TB
5+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in startups or with a strong technical background
Strong hands-on backend development skills in Python and/or Node
Ability to design production-grade AI components with reliability and observability in mind
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Not mandatory, but great to have : experience with LLM-based systems, familiarity with LLM SDKs (OpenAI, Anthropic, LiteLLM, Langchain), ML/Deep Learning background (NLP or Computer Vision), AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Codex), interest or background in Intellectual Property.
